Advocacy
NFL Network has recognized the long term dangers of the childhood obesity crisis and is dedicated to addressing this problem directly. With the support of local NFL teams and other program partners, Keep Gym in School is raising awareness about the need for quality Physical Education across the country.
Keep Gym in School is dedicated to bringing genuine help to Physical Education programs by providing grants that help schools refurbish playing fields, gyms and fitness rooms and purchase desperately needed new equipment. We're helping more kids get greater access to quality PE every week and fighting childhood obesity in schools every day.
To further the mission of supporting physical education in America's schools and establishing healthy lifestyles, NFL Network, with its partner NASPE, is working to educate the U.S. Congress and Executive Branch on the following legislative priorities:
Support the FIT Kids Act!
The FIT Kids Act would require all schools, districts, and states to report the amount of time spent in required physical education as measured against the national standard on their Title I report cards. This would arm parents and advocates with the necessary information to encourage schools to offer the required amount of physical education time for students. Take action.
Include PE and HE as core subjects within ESEA! Support a well-rounded education
Both quality physical education and health education are critical components of educating the whole child, helping students to become health literate, understand the benefits of a physically active lifestyle, model and practice healthful behaviors, and adopt a lifelong commitment to healthy living. Take action.
Support the PHYSICAL Act! Include PE & HE as core subjects within ESEA
At a time when one-third of our nation's children are overweight or obese, we must take advantage of every strategy to encourage schools to provide quality PE and HE, which increase physical competence, health-related fitness and health literacy, and will improve academic performance, student behavior and cognitive ability. Support the PHYSICAL Act which designates PE and HE as core subjects. Take action.
Support continued funding for CDC's Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH)
The Senate Appropriations Committee has voted to collapse the Center for Disease Control's DASH funding into a chronic disease state block grant, putting at risk DASH's funding to state education agencies for coordinated school health programs. Tell your Senators and Representatives to continue funding DASH. click here.
