NFL Network and Comcast celebrate Keep Gym in School 2010 with the Atlanta Falcons
Camp Creek Middle School
Atlanta, GA
Keep Gym in School 2010 is well underway after the second exciting pep rally and minicamp event in Atlanta. NFL Network adopted Camp Creek Middle School for a $25,000 physical education grant. Along with Comcast and the Atlanta Falcons, NFL Network provided funding to update and improve PE equipment and offerings, as well as to convert a classroom into a brand new fitness center.
NFL Network Analyst Jamie Dukes and Atlanta Falcons’ Running back Michael Turner led a super-charged pep rally for the kids of Camp Creek with performances by the Falcons Cheerleaders, West Lake High band, dance team and cheerleaders. Dignitaries including VP of Government & Community Affairs for Comcast’s Atlanta Region Andy Macke, Fulton County Public School Superintendent Dr. Cindy Loe and Chairman of the Fulton County Commission John Eaves, were treated to an exciting special addition - a dance-off between Atlanta mascot Freddie Falcon and students from Camp Creek.
Michael, joined by teammates Kroy Bierman, Ovie Mughelli, Spencer Adkins, Lawrence Sidbury and Coy Wire then took students onto the football field for warm-ups and a training camp-style drill set. The students of Camp Creek left the field inspired and excited for fitness. Thanks to Comcast, Michael Turner and the Atlanta Falcons and congratulations to Camp Creek Middle!

Senator Tom Udall has introduced legislation to make physical education and health education core academic subjects within ESEA. S. 3683 would also reauthorize PEP as a stand-alone program, create a new health education grant similar to PEP and make some changes in the Department of Education to emphasize PE and health education. Please contact your Senators and ask them to co-sponsor this important bill. [Take action] Use NASPE's new “PE is an Academic Subject” paper in your advocacy!
